ABOUT FLAVORED TEA

The oldest, and most ancient method, is known as 'scenting' the tea leaves.  Scenting consists of compressing layers of tea leaves  interspersed with fragrant flowers or fruits and allowing the tea leaves to absorb the fragrances and essential oils through direct contact with the tea leaves.

A second and more recent method of flavoring tea leaves is to use essential oil based liquid flavors.  These liquid flavors are mixed into the tea leaves, often with a with a blending machine.  The flavored tea blend is then sealed a tight container for a period of time, normally at least one full day, to allow full absorbtion of the flavoring.

Here at Hawaiian Islands Tea Company we employ the latter method and use all-natural liquid flavorings for our tropical teas.  All of our Hawaiian Islands Tea Company tropical teas are all-natural flavored teas, with the exception of our Earl Grey tea which uses a combination of natural and artificial Bergamot citrus flavoring.
